Reading Instructions Practice: Find the Required Next Step
Use a short original passage to practice sequence and conditions. Find the sentence that supports your answer instead of guessing what should happen.
Let the passage supply the rule
A reading question is asking what the provided text supports. A sensible action in everyday life can still be the wrong answer when the passage gives a different order or condition. Look for words such as first, next, only and unless. Before choosing, point to the sentence that supplies the requirement.
Read this fictional notice
An orientation pack contains a schedule and a booking form. First, read the schedule. Next, open the booking form and choose a session. Submit the form only after choosing a session. If every session is full, join the waiting list instead. This is an invented practice notice, not instructions for an actual program.
Question: what happens next?
A learner has finished reading the schedule. What does the notice require next: submit the form, open the booking form, or join the waiting list? The supported answer is open the booking form. The instruction beginning “Next” gives that next action. Submitting comes after selecting a session. The waiting-list instruction applies only when every session is full; the question never states that condition.
Separate sequence from conditions
You do not need to invent extra steps or assume that a session is available. First identify where the learner is in the stated sequence. Then check whether any condition changes the next action. Notice that choosing a session and submitting the form are separate actions. If the question asked what must happen before submission, the answer would be choosing a session, rather than merely opening the form.
A practice routine you can repeat
Read the passage once for its overall purpose, then reread the question. Underline the exact evidence for your answer. For each alternative, explain whether it happens later, needs an unstated condition, or contradicts the text. An error log can distinguish a missed word from an unsupported assumption. Electrical Aptitude Mastery's separate seven-page reading bonus contains four original passages and 16 questions with explained answers. Aptitude Practice Foundation offers broader reading-logic practice alongside math, mechanics and spatial reasoning. This small public lesson is supplementary; the full paid practice sets remain in the purchased PDFs.
